On my most recent trip to California I got to see some of the old Missions from the 17th century, which I enjoyed. I always like seeing history (my sister thinks I'm nuts for wanting to see St. Augustine in Florida rather than Disney World) and my friend and I were able to get a brief tour of the gardens. Just about everything was refurbished, as this was the 240th anniversary of the mission's founding.
The garden is lovely, though I wonder if they really needed quite so many cacti. But it was surprising to a guy from Pennsylvania to see lemon and orange trees bearing fruit in winter!

bscruffy is a rancher or something in California, he is quite the artist and historian. These folktales were taken down by a priest at San Juan Capistrano, the only reason we know of most of these now.
